The Apes will once again rise and take over the world. It’s a creepy thought if it will happen for real. Fortunately for us, this is just the plot of the movie “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” that is set to invade theatres all over the world this August. Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which was originally titled “Caesar and Rise of the Apes” is a reboot of the series “Planet of the Apes” and will be the first of a new movie series.
If you have seen the previous movie entitled “Planet of the Apes”, this new one is not the same as the film that starred Mark Wahlberg, Tim Roth and Helena Bonham Carter. That previous film was based on Pierre Boulle’s novel of the same title. The story is about an astronaut that crash-landed on a planet inhabited by apes that thinks and lives like human being does. The film was a hit on the box-office, earning more than $300 million from theatres all over the world.
So what’s the difference of this new movie from the previous one? The plot is one. On “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” movie, James Franco is the protagonist of the film and plays the role of Will Rodman, a scientist who is working on a cure for Alzheimer’s disease and uses apes as test subjects. Caesar, the name of the first chimpanzee subject, is played by Andy Serkis. The cure that was tested on Caesar genetically modified his mind and gave him intelligence at par with human beings. He begins to realize that he is a prisoner on the lab and decides to make an escape by giving the said “cure” that enabled him to think like humans to other chimpanzees on the lab and create a new breed of super apes.
With the cure being released to other apes, millions of apes begin to evolve into intelligent ones and soon, they decide that the planet is not big enough for humans and apes alike. All hell breaks out when war between humans and apes begins. Watch Rise of the Planet of the Apes to know who wins this battle that will change the way we use animals as test subjects forever.
For fans of the previous movies and the tv series that is based on a single story, this new film should not be considered as a sequel of any of them and should be taken as an original movie that will be the start of a movie series based on the storyline of “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”. Director Rupert Wyatt has this to say on the plot of the film: “This is part of the mythology and it should be seen as that. It's not a continuation of the other films; it's an original story. It does satisfy the people who enjoy those films. The point of this film is to achieve that and to bring that fan base into this film exactly like Batman Begins.”
The filming of “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” started last July 2010 and filming was made in Vancouver, Canada, San Francisco, California, Hawaii, and British Columbia. The movie is set for release this August 5, 2011 and stars James Franco, Freida Pinto, Andy Serkis, Tom Felton, David Hewlett and Brian Cox. The film is distributed by 20th Century Fox and has a budget of $90 million.
